Job Summary:

The GWO Certified Wind Travel Technician II will typically work on a service team to achieve safe and efficient wind turbine maintenance. Will travel (100%) supporting various projects throughout the U.S. Perform various mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions. Perform some troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis. Document all work performed using computer- based service reporting procedures. Help in all areas of site operations as directed by manager with minimal supervision. Requires you to apply your electro-mechanical skills and experience. Reports directly to the Resource Manager and indirectly to the Site Manager, Service Manager or Lead Technician when on a job. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our Sky Climber vision and align with our organization’s mission and values.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or Associate Engineering Degree in a Technical Electrical / Electronic or Wind Energy discipline from an accredited college or university (OR Technical Certification in Wind Energy with a minimum of 1 year of experience in electrical / electronic industry or wind field technician experience OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in electrical / industrial repair industry)
  • Ideal candidates should preferably have acted in the capacity of at minimum a Wind Service Tech I for 10-12 months
  • Current GWO Certifications (e.g., BST, BTT, ART)
  • Training will include and must successfully complete:
  • Tower Safety Training (e.g., High-angle rescue or wind tower rescue)
  • LOTO Training
  • Pass Background Check and Drug Screening


Physical Requirements:


  • Candidates must be able to climb a 300 feet wind tower multiple times per day
  • Candidates must be able to walk across the hub and, in the event of an emergency, repel off
  • Must be comfortable working at heights of up to 300+ feet
  • Must meet specific weight requirements of tower ladders under OSHA and/or industry standards of 250 to 300 lbs. max, including personal protective equipment (approx. 30-35lbs)
  • Must be comfortable working in confined space(s).
  • Must be able to see and move throughout site to resolve work problems and facilitate processes; repetitive motion activities may be involved
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting
  • Frequent climbing, walking, and standing, and bending.
  • Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight up to 50 lbs
  • Successful completion of climb test(s) and tower rescue training




Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical installations, maintenances, operations, and upgrades to wind turbines
  • Properly document work performed, including parts usage and time worked
  • Perform basic quality control inspections on repairs and maintenance functions
  • Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits and ability to conduct basic circuit analysis
  • Prepare timely and concise reports regarding inspections to ensure proper steps are taken to remedy any deficiencies
  • Interact closely with on-site maintenance and providing guidance and training when applicable
  • Be proactive for wind turbine counter measures or enhancements that may be needed and assist in the development of such procedure’s as required
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of Wind Turbines on an “as needed” basis
  • Assist with cost control management of the site
  • Verify that the work is completed in compliance with customer’s requirements
  • Perform work based on established work procedures
  • Report policy or procedure violations
  • Possess strong knowledge about specific wind service activity tools and be able to use them safely
  • Travel as required (100%) – Minimum six (6) weeks on (deployed) and one (1) week off (R&R)
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights and in all weather conditions
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record (e.g., No suspensions or restrictions, DWI, DWAI, OWI, OUI)
