Job Summary:

The Blade Repair Technician will be responsible for the internal and external inspections, defect analysis and Category 1-3 repair of fiberglass and composite blades, spinners, and nacelles from all brands and categories. Will travel (100%) to various projects across the United States. The position will also be responsible for providing occasional maintenance support for wind turbine generators. The technicians will be required to document the findings, and assemble all associated paperwork as required to be reported for further action. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our Sky Climber vision and align with our organization’s mission and values.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of composite repair experience (OR Graduate of a Wind Tech/and or accredited Composite Program)
  • Training will include and must successfully complete:
  • GWO Training
  • LOTO Training
  • Suspended Platform Rigging/De-Rigging
  • Pass Background Check and Drug Screening



Physical Requirements:


  • Candidates must be able to climb a 300 feet wind tower multiple times per day.
  • Candidates must be able to walk across the hub and, in the event of an emergency, repel off.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights of up to 300+ feet.
  • Must meet specific weight requirements of tower ladders under OSHA and/or industry standards of 250 to 300 lbs. max, including personal protective equipment (approx. 30-35lbs).
  • Must be comfortable working in confined space(s).
  • Must be able to see and move throughout site to resolve work problems and facilitate processes; repetitive motion activities may be involved.
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting
  • Frequent climbing, walking, and standing, and bending.
  • Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Successful completion of climb test(s) and tower rescue training



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and photograph internal and external blade damage, document findings, and assemble all associated paperwork as required to be posted for further action by Engineering
  • Perform coating and minor structural repairs (Category 1-3) on internal and external blade surfaces, tip repair, leading and trailing edge repair while following guidelines provided by Engineering with locations both up tower and down tower
  • Utilize Blade Access Platforms and/or Aerial Lift Trucks at heights of 300ft or more
  • Help in all areas of site preparation (i.e., coordination of labor and materials) with minimal supervision
  • Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures and ensure appropriate follow-up measures are taken
  • Communicate site status to engineering, customers, and management
  • Provide maintenance support and perform large component repair or replacement for wind turbine generators
  • Provide wind turbine generator LOTO (Lock Out & Tag Out) support
  • Understand basic lamination principles and post curing.
  • Install vortex generators (serrations, panels, and flow anchors)
  • Travel as required (100%) – Minimum six (6) weeks on (deployed) and one (1) week off (R&R).
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights and in all weather conditions
  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record (e.g., No suspensions or restrictions, DWI, DWAI, OWI, OUI)

  • Blade access platform experience
  • Lightning protection system inspections knowledge
  • Understand technology of wind blade construction and repair
  • Understanding of mix ratios for all blade repair chemicals
  • Understanding of blade assembly terminology
