JOB DESCRIPTION – WIND TURBINE MAJOR CORRECTIVE TECHNICAL ADVISOR

 

Primary expectations are to support Project Management in developing wind turbine component exchange capabilities as well as support teams in the field performing turbine repair work. Development specifics include toolkit specification and build-out, turbine repair / component exchange procedures and documentation, quality control checks, etc. Lead first-of-a-kind repairs in the field and document results. Provide troubleshooting advice to teams in the field and train junior technicians. Assist in selection of team members.

 

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

As a Technical Advisor, you will:

 

  • Utilize experience to develop and document large corrective (gearbox, generator, blade, blade bearing, main shaft, etc.) procedures for multiple wind turbine brands (GE, Vestas, SGRE, Nordex, etc.)
  • Develop toolkit bill of material for specific turbine repair tasks
  • Support Project Management in developing project plans for turbine repairs
  • Support Program Management in developing new turbine repair capabilities within the organization
  • Supervise first-of-a-kind projects in the field and document results
  • Develop safety and quality checks / inspections for specific turbine repair scopes of work
  • Supervise teams in the field as needed; includes up tower and down tower leadership, rigging knowledge, crane calling experience, etc.
  • Communicate with customer in the field
  • Provide daily reporting to management regarding project status / progress
  • Understand basic financial aspect of wind turbine repair projects
  • Be a safety leader and role model to junior technicians in the organization

 

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 yrs of wind industry experience, 5+ yrs preferred
  • Minimum 3 yrs of large corrective experience, majority in team leadership role
  • Most have large corrective tooling knowledge
  • Most have crane calling and rigging experience (NCCCO preferred)
  • Must be able read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, assembly/disassembly instructions, operation and maintenance procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Experience in overall wind farm operations and maintenance, installation, and heavy lift main component exchanges.
  • Knowledge of operations and maintenance procedures, troubleshooting and diagnostics, schematic knowledge
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Intermediate level computer skills and ability to use technology apps and devices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated technical and team leadership capabilities.
  • Must have positive attitude and the ability to complete physically demanding tasks at heights.
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and alternate schedules, including overtime and holidays.
  • Ability to climb wind turbines (approx. 300 feet).
  • Weight compliance between 120 and 280 pounds for safety standards.
  • Capability to lift and move heavy equipment (over 50 pounds).
  • Valid Driver License
