Wind Service Technician – Level 2 (Vestas Platform)

About the Role
Sky Climber Renewables is seeking experienced Wind Service Technicians – Level 2 to support preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator systems, primarily within Vestas platforms.
This role represents the next step beyond entry-level wind technician development. Level 2 Technicians demonstrate technical proficiency, operate with moderate autonomy, mentor Level 1 technicians, and support safe, efficient turbine operations in compliance with OEM and customer standards.
This position reports to the Site Manager or Program Manager and works under the functional direction of the Lead Technician during assignments. Technicians may be placed in long-term site-based assignments or deployed to regional programs depending on operational needs.
What You’ll Do
- Perform scheduled, preventive, and corrective maintenance on Vestas wind turbine systems
- Work independently on most mechanical and auxiliary electrical systems
- Support and lead service crews of 2–3 technicians during scheduled maintenance activities
- Assist with corrective maintenance and component replacements
- Perform torqueing and tensioning to OEM specifications
- Dismantle and reassemble machinery, components, and tooling
- Mentor and guide Level 1 technicians
- Interface professionally with customers and site stakeholders
- Follow and enforce all Environmental Health & Safety (HSE) procedures
Safety & Compliance Responsibilities
- Execute and oversee LOTO, confined space, fall protection, and rescue protocols
- Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Identify and mitigate operational risks
- Intervene in unsafe situations and promote a strong safety culture
- Serve as a safety role model on and off site
Systems Experience
Maintain and repair turbine systems including:
- Yaw and pitch systems
- Cooling systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Brake systems (discs, calipers)
- Heaters, PT100s, and sensor systems
- Auxiliary gearbox and main bearing components
Documentation & Quality
- Accurately document all work performed
- Submit detailed technical and progress reports
- Verify compliance with OEM and customer standards
- Support audits and quality improvement initiatives
Specialized Long-Term Site Assignment Opportunity
Selected technicians may support extended OEM programs at a single wind farm location. These assignments provide:
- Up to 11 months of performance-based placement at one site
- Advanced OEM Technician II training
- LOTO II and task-based certification completion
- Skill validation and qualification advancement
- Company-provided work trucks maintained on site
Housing & Allowance Support
- Newly built apartments near site at discounted rates
- $3,600 monthly non-taxed housing and POV allowance
Qualifications & Experience
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Successful climb and rescue evaluation
- Minimum one (1) year wind industry experience OR three (3) years relevant mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic industrial experience
Required Certifications
- GWO Basic Safety Training
- Tower Safety / High-Angle Rescue
- LOTO Certification
- Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic Systems Training
Technical Competencies
- Intermediate-to-advanced mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of Vestas turbine platforms preferred
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams and wiring schematics
- Proficiency with power and hydraulic tools, torque equipment, diagnostic tools, and MS Office applications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb 300-ft towers multiple times per day
- Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly
- Combined body weight and PPE must not exceed 300 lbs
Work Schedule & Travel
- Holidays, weekends, and overtime as required
- Site rotations with R&R every 6 weeks
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to work in varying and adverse weather conditions
